Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) researchers proposed ending consensus-layer staking rewards when roughly 60.25 million ETH, or 50% of supply, is staked.
Ethereum currently has more than one-third of its supply staked, while the existing system keeps rewarding additional deposits.
“The current issuance curve continues offering a yield of around 1.5% even if nearly all ETH is staked,” the authors wrote.
EIP-8361 would gradually burn more validator rewards as staking rises, eventually burning 100% near the proposed threshold.
ETH traded near US$1,878, up about 0.5% over 24 hours, with no clear reaction linked to the proposal.
The researchers proposed an 18-month transition designed to keep validator yields near current levels during the early phase.
EIP-8361 remains a draft and requires technical review, community debate and developer coordination before any potential Ethereum upgrade.
Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) has entered its second decade after a year of significant changes at the Ethereum Foundation, including leadership restructuring and a renewed focus on the network's long-term direction.
