Base launches AI wallet transaction tool
Base launched a new tool allowing artificial intelligence agents to connect directly with crypto wallets and perform blockchain-related actions through chat interfaces.
Base said its new Base MCP (Model Context Protocol) enables users to ask AI models including OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude to transfer funds, swap tokens, check balances and review transaction history on the blockchain.
“Unlike siloed agentic wallets that only live in a terminal, your Base Account travels with you — trades, history, and portfolio sync whether you’re in-agent or in the Base App,”
Said Coinbase head of AI product Lincoln Murr.
The tool integrates with crypto protocols including Uniswap, Morpho, Moonwell and Aerodrome while requiring users to manually approve every transaction through their Base wallet.
Base said the AI agents do not gain access to users’ private keys and that all transactions pass through the same review and simulation process used for standard wallet approvals.
The launch also expands adoption of Coinbase’s x402 protocol, introduced in 2025 to support AI-driven crypto micro-payments and agentic transaction systems.
The rollout comes as security researchers and technology firms continue warning about risks tied to AI agents handling financial transactions, including malware attacks targeting AI coding assistants and concerns over hidden malicious instructions embedded in AI workflows.
