Crypto exchanges are tightening security following Binance’s $6.3 billion heist, according to a Reuters report.
Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) adjusted its offline cryptocurrency key-storage systems, while Kraken reviewed potential vulnerabilities.
“For crypto to reach its full potential, the security situation must be addressed immediately,” Franklin Templeton’s Head of Crypto Chris Perkins said in a statement.
The attack renewed pressure on exchanges to improve security as digital assets become more integrated into mainstream finance.
“We need a real-time alert system that allows participants to share information immediately when a hack occurs, coordinate a rapid response, and temporarily freeze suspected stolen funds,” said OKX CEO Star Xu in a post on X.
The attack unfolded within approximately 20 minutes, with investigators examining possible social engineering and sophisticated money-laundering methods.
Tether froze nearly $1.57 billion linked to the incident, while Circle Internet Group Inc (NYSE:CRCL) froze approximately $800 million.
The calls place coordinated cybersecurity responses and information-sharing at the centre of the cryptocurrency industry's efforts to protect users.
