Ripple secures final approval for national trust bank
- Ripple has received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish Ripple National Trust Bank.
- The bank will oversee segregated reserves backing Ripple USD (RLUSD) and provide fiduciary digital asset custody services.
- RLUSD has reached a $2.5 billion market capitalisation, while the new charter adds federal supervision to its existing regulatory framework.
Ripple has received final approval to establish a federally supervised national trust bank, expanding its regulated digital asset infrastructure in the United States.
The approval completes the organisation process following conditional approval in December 2025, giving Ripple National Trust Bank authority to manage segregated RLUSD reserves and provide digital asset custody.
“For years, we’ve said crypto and banks work better together. Final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank is what that looks like in practice,” Ripple Chief Executive Officer Brad Garlinghouse said in a statement.
The bank will act as collateral trustee for RLUSD reserves on behalf of holders, while RLUSD issuance remains with Standard Custody & Trust Company, regulated by New York’s Department of Financial Services.
Ripple says RLUSD has reached a $2.5 billion market capitalisation since launching in December 2024, with the stablecoin used in its payments infrastructure and as collateral within Ripple Prime.
BNY serves as RLUSD’s primary reserve custodian, while Ripple publishes monthly independent third-party attestations covering the stablecoin’s circulating supply and reserve assets.
Ripple says it holds more than 85 licences and plans to work with the OCC, New York regulators and other authorities as the trust bank begins operations.
The approval strengthens federal oversight of Ripple’s trust banking and custody activities as US regulators implement the framework established by the GENIUS Act.
