Ripple outlined a four-stage plan to prepare the XRP Ledger for future quantum computing threats.
The plan begins by checking network vulnerabilities and testing alternative cryptography against current workloads.
“The goal is not to wait until quantum computing becomes an immediate threat,” said Ayo Akinyele, Ripple’s senior director of engineering.
Later stages would run existing security alongside quantum-resistant systems before moving the wider network across.
The XRP Ledger already lets users replace account keys without changing their accounts, while validators must coordinate wider rule changes.
Akinyele said the upgrade will require stronger key management, clearer upgrade paths and more flexible infrastructure.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) developers are also working on ways to replace their current digital signatures.
