Zcash targets November upgrade for faster payments

Zcash (CRYPTO:ZEC) developers have targeted November 5 for the NU7 upgrade, which would cut block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.

The target has followed a governance vote involving about 2.4 million ZEC, equal to 66% of the eligible voting pool.

The vote has recorded 98.9% support for maintaining the existing halving schedule, while 96.6% has supported returning collected fees through mining rewards from February 2031.

The upgrade would temporarily remove about 60% of transaction fees from circulation before returning the fees through mining rewards from February 2031.

Developers have set September 30 as the code deadline and October 6 for testing, with the final mainnet decision due on October 20.

The proposed changes would increase Zcash block frequency and could reduce the time required for private payments, although November 5 remains a target date.

The NU7 proposal has formed part of Zcash’s ongoing network development, with governance also supporting the existing halving schedule and the planned fee-reward mechanism.
