Sui resumes after six-hour network outage

Sui Network resumed normal operations after a network outage lasting nearly six hours that temporarily halted transaction processing across its mainnet.

The layer-1 blockchain said the disruption was caused by a crash bug in the gas charging logic introduced in its 1.72 software release, with validators restoring network activity after deploying a fix.

“Activity on the Sui Mainnet has resumed following a halt due to a crash bug in the gas charging logic introduced by the 1.72 release,”

Sui said in a statement on X.

The outage lasted five hours and 55 minutes and marked the second period of downtime for the blockchain in 2026, following a separate incident in January that kept the network offline for more than six hours.

The SUI token fell approximately 6.6% to 90 cents during the disruption before recovering to around 93 cents as the network came back online.

Sui is currently the 13th-largest blockchain by total value locked with approximately $542 million secured across 137 protocols, according to DefiLlama data.

The incident comes weeks after the token rallied 50% following announcements of upcoming features including zero-fee stablecoin transfers and private transactions, while developers continue to position the network as a high-performance blockchain for institutional-scale applications.
