Circle details CCTP support for custom tokens
Key points
- Circle has published technical guidance for moving issuer-operated ERC-20 tokens across supported blockchains using CCTP.
- Issuers can connect existing tokens or deploy new cross-chain assets through Circle’s CrossChainToken service.
- The guide demonstrates native token deployment and transfers using Arc Testnet and another supported EVM network.
Circle Internet Group Inc (NYSE:CRCL) has detailed how its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol can support custom ERC-20 tokens beyond USDC.
The October 30 developer guide outlines two options: connecting existing issuer-operated tokens or deploying new cross-chain assets.
Circle’s CCTP infrastructure uses a burn-and-mint process, with its Iris service attesting messages before destination tokens are minted.
The system targets issuer-operated assets, including stablecoins and tokenised real-world assets, that need transfers across multiple blockchain networks.
Existing ERC-20 issuers can configure custom tokens, while new projects can deploy assets through Circle’s CrossChainToken service.
The guide demonstrates native token deployment on Arc Testnet, followed by transfers to another supported EVM network.
Issuers retain control over token permissions, transfer limits and maximum transaction amounts through configurable administrative settings.
The update extends Circle’s cross-chain infrastructure beyond USDC, although the published demonstration uses testnet rather than production deployment.
