The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has launched four fintech initiatives at Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026.
The initiatives advance its Fintech 2030 strategy through artificial intelligence, resilience, tokenisation and payment infrastructure.
“Hong Kong is well placed to capitalise on new growth opportunities,” HKMA Chief Executive Eddie Yue said in a statement.
The HKMA introduced Project SAGE to develop governance standards for agentic artificial intelligence applications across financial services.
Its Project Ensemble programme also advanced to 24/7 real-value settlement, enabling continuous transactions involving tokenised assets.
The authority completed secondary-market trials involving tokenised Exchange Fund Bills and plans to include regulated stablecoins.
Meanwhile, its Faster Payment System will connect with UnionPay International by year-end, reaching over 100 million merchants across multiple markets.
The initiatives position Hong Kong's financial sector around artificial intelligence, stronger cybersecurity, tokenisation and connected payments.
