A solo Bitcoin miner using a consumer-grade Canaan Avalon Nano 3S successfully mined block 951771 on May 30, earning a reward worth approximately $232,000 despite facing odds of nearly 149 million to one.

The winning block was discovered through the Braiins Solo mining pool, with the machine operating at 6.68 terahashes per second while consuming only 140 watts of power.

The reward totalled 3.1404 BTC, consisting of Bitcoin's 3.125 BTC block subsidy and roughly 0.0154 BTC in transaction fees.

The Canaan Avalon Nano 3S, which typically retails for between $250 and $300, is designed for home users and is significantly less powerful than the industrial mining equipment that dominates the Bitcoin network.

Based on Bitcoin's network hashrate of roughly one zettahash per second at the time, the probability of a single 6.68 TH/s machine finding any individual block was approximately one in 148.9 million.

At those odds, a miner running continuously would statistically expect to wait more than 2,800 years to discover a block independently.

Although the miner reportedly operated a small fleet of devices, pool records credited a single Avalon Nano 3S worker with finding the winning block.

The event adds to a growing list of rare solo-mining successes during the past year and has reignited discussion among Bitcoin enthusiasts about whether home mining remains viable as a long-shot alternative to joining large industrial mining operations.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $72,660.07.
