  • The departure comes as Polymarket faces investor pressure to strengthen governance and prepare for a potential public listing.

Polymarket has fired Chief Marketing Officer Matthew Modabber following an internal investigation into controversial marketing practices, according to an exclusive report by the New York Post.

The departure comes as the prediction market platform faces growing scrutiny over promotional tactics and investor concerns about its management, with the company reportedly exploring a potential initial public offering.

Polymarket previously said it was “committed to maintaining accurate, fair, and transparent markets,” according to its response to The Wall Street Journal.

The internal probe examined allegations that Modabber’s team created a fake webpage promoting staged videos of users profiting from fictitious trades, a controversy that prompted an investigation by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Investigators also reportedly examined influencer payments allegedly made through Modabber’s personal PayPal account, including promotions that may not have disclosed paid partnerships.

Modabber joined Polymarket in January 2024 and claimed to have helped increase daily trading volume from $300,000 to the mid-nine-figure range while building a team of more than 50 employees.

The dismissal follows wider investor pressure for stronger financial controls and professional management as Polymarket pursues its next stage of growth, although the CFTC investigation remains ongoing and no wrongdoing has been established in that case.
