Meta launches $115M workforce academy for AI data centres

Meta has unveiled a $115 million workforce development programme aimed at training workers for data centre technician positions as the company accelerates investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure across the United States.

The new initiative, called America’s Workforce Academy, will offer participants free training and guaranteed full-time job offers with contractors involved in Meta’s data centre construction projects.

Meta said the programme is part of its wider plan to invest $600 billion in US infrastructure and jobs over the next three years as demand for computing power continues to grow.

“The AI revolution is bringing change but also historic opportunities,”

Said Dina Powell McCormick, Meta’s president and vice-chairman.

The company said the academy will focus on technical skills required for data centre operations, although it has not disclosed how many jobs will be created, which contractors will participate or whether union positions will be included.

Meta’s hiring push comes as chief executive Mark Zuckerberg expands the company’s AI ambitions, including the development of AI agents capable of performing tasks such as booking appointments, creating applications and completing transactions.

The programme also highlights the employment dynamics of large-scale data centre projects, which can require thousands of construction workers during development but often support only around 100 permanent operational jobs once facilities become fully operational.
