Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) holdings controlled by exchanges, institutional investors and public companies have surpassed the estimated 1.1 million BTC believed to belong to Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto.
Satoshi remains the largest known individual holder, but institutions collectively now control a larger share of Bitcoin's circulating supply.
"The balance of Bitcoin ownership is shifting from early adopters to institutional investors," the report said.
The report attributed the change to growing demand from spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, corporate treasury strategies and crypto custodians.
Institutional ownership has increased as more financial firms add Bitcoin to investment products and balance sheets.
Satoshi's estimated holdings have remained untouched since Bitcoin was launched in 2009, making the wallet one of the largest inactive holdings in the network.
The changing ownership profile reflects Bitcoin's growing role in traditional finance as institutional participation continues to expand.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $63,375.32.
