Key points

  • New Jersey has rescinded a 2023 summary penalty and cease-and-desist order against Coinbase.
  • The original order imposed a $5 million civil penalty and restricted certain securities offerings.
  • The rescission carries no ruling on the original allegations and preserves New Jersey's ability to pursue future enforcement.

New Jersey has rescinded a 2023 enforcement order against Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ).

The New Jersey Bureau of Securities originally issued the order on 6 June 2023.

The original ruling imposed a $5 million civil penalty against Coinbase and its affiliated entities.

It also prohibited Coinbase from offering certain securities, including its staking products, without proper registration or exemption.

Acting Bureau Chief Keith A. Alt rescinded the order on 30 October 2026.

The rescission applies without prejudice and does not constitute an adjudication on the original order's merits.

New Jersey retains the authority to pursue future enforcement against Coinbase for potential securities law violations.

The decision removes the 2023 order but leaves the door open for further regulatory action.
