Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ:COIN) has urged early preparation for Bitcoin’s (BTC) post-quantum transition, outlining technical priorities for strengthening network security.

The exchange says the transition requires more than selecting quantum-resistant signatures, including support for wallets, full nodes and institutional custody.

“We believe it is important to begin preparing well ahead of any CRQC (Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computer) announcement,” Coinbase said in a statement.

The company favours flexible designs that allow Bitcoin to adopt or replace signature schemes without rebuilding the entire transaction structure.

Its recommendations include P2MR (BIP-360), P2TRv2 and hybrid systems offering conventional and post-quantum spending options.

Coinbase also highlights compatibility with multiparty computation, which helps institutions manage cryptographic keys across multiple parties.

Coinbase holds approximately 5% of Bitcoin’s supply and says it is preparing its systems while supporting open-source security work.

Following the update, BTC was trading down 0.1% at $83,456.50.
