F2Pool founder Chun Wang joins SpaceX Mars mission

Chun Wang said he will join SpaceX’s first planned crewed Mars flyby mission after purchasing a seat on the future interplanetary flight.

SpaceX said the two-year mission would travel beyond the Moon, fly by Mars, and later return to Earth as part of the company’s long-term plans for deep space exploration.

“And I think I should do something about that. I hope that by purchasing a flyby mission to Mars, SpaceX will have another reason not to forget about Mars,”

Wang wrote on X.

Wang said he believes governments will eventually establish lunar bases as competition between the United States and China intensifies, but argued private investment remains necessary to keep Mars exploration moving forward.

The crypto entrepreneur also purchased a ticket for a planned commercial SpaceX mission around the Moon scheduled to launch before the Mars expedition.

Wang founded F2Pool in 2013, which later became one of China’s earliest Bitcoin mining pools and currently controls more than 11% of global Bitcoin mining market share according to mempool.space.

Last year, Wang also funded and commanded the SpaceX Fram2 mission, which carried out scientific experiments over Earth’s poles including mushroom cultivation and X-ray imaging in space.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $77,217.12.
