The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has launched a targeted review to accelerate global implementation of crypto regulations.

The review will focus primarily on jurisdictions with materially important virtual asset service provider activity.

FATF has urged jurisdictions to address remaining regulatory gaps and deficiencies without delay.

The watchdog warned that criminal networks continue exploiting virtual assets’ cross-border nature and uneven regulatory implementation.

The review will involve direct engagement, training and capacity-building initiatives to help jurisdictions implement FATF standards.

Existing mutual evaluations and follow-up processes will remain the primary tools for assessing national compliance.

FATF will publish its initial review findings in June 2027, followed by further results in October 2027.

The initiative strengthens international pressure on governments to close gaps in oversight of virtual assets and service providers.
