Peter Atwater, president at Financial Insyghts and lecturer at William & Mary College, said that the top and bottom of the 'K-shaped economy' have become two vastly different experiences with 'nothing in common' as consumers on the bottom leg of the 'K' feel the daily impact of war fueled inflation and a labor market impacted by AI. Atwater says that the affordability crunch at the bottom of the 'K' will likely result in political turnover in midterm elections this fall.
