Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA) has denied plans to expand its offshore workforce following staff questioning over a new office construction in Bangalore, India, capable of housing thousands of workers.

The questioning arose from members of the bank's domestic cybersecurity team during a period of expanding overseas footprints across rival financial institutions.

"We’re not planning to increase the number of employees in India, and then secondly, all of the data and systems and records remain in Australia," said Commonwealth Bank CEO Matt Comyn.

Management clarified that the new Indian facility is intended to provide complementary global skills to meet rising risk, compliance, and cyber obligations rather than signal future job cuts in Australia.

The lender assured staff that strictly regulated customer information will not be relocated to international servers.

Following the announcement, the Commonwealth Bank share price was down at $150.95.

The financial institution has maintained its primary operational base in Australia while utilising selective international capabilities to support its domestic technology infrastructure.

Over recent years, major Australian banks have continually balanced domestic workforce investments with targeted offshore resourcing to manage escalating operational compliance costs.
