Vertex reports kidney drug trial results

• Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:VRTX) reported positive Phase 2b AMPLIFIED study results for inaxaplin in people with APOL1-mediated kidney disease.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:VRTX) reported positive Phase 2b AMPLIFIED study results for inaxaplin in people with APOL1-mediated kidney disease and different levels of proteinuria.

The study evaluated a 45 mg once-daily dose of inaxaplin alongside optimized standard care, with 41 participants enrolled across two patient cohorts.

In cohort one, participants with APOL1-mediated kidney disease and modest proteinuria experienced a 42.7% reduction in urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio at Week 13 compared with baseline, while urine protein-to-creatinine ratio declined 44.7%.

In cohort two, participants with APOL1-mediated kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, and proteinuria showed a 17.3% reduction in urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio at Week 13, while urine protein-to-creatinine ratio declined 25.4%.

Vertex is developing inaxaplin as a treatment targeting APOL1-mediated kidney disease, a condition associated with genetic variants affecting kidney function.

The AMPLIFIED study builds on earlier Phase 2a results in APOL1-mediated kidney disease with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, where Vertex reported reductions in UACR and UPCR measures after 13 weeks.
