Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas Gigafactory around mid-2027, with CEO Elon Musk saying the move will make room for increased production of the company's Cybercab robotaxi.

The planned reduction follows weaker delivery figures in Tesla's combined Other Models category, which recorded 8,295 deliveries in the third quarter of 2026, down from 12,364 in the second quarter.

Elon Musk said the "Cybertruck fleet will be around for a long time," while describing the planned production wind-down as the "end of an era" in a post on X.

The timing of the production change remains subject to further clarification, as Tesla has not confirmed whether Cybertruck manufacturing will move elsewhere or end entirely; its Austin facility is currently the only known production site equipped to manufacture the model's specialised components.

Tesla intends to redirect manufacturing capacity towards Cybercab, which began offering paid rides through a limited Austin fleet in September 2026, although the company still faces outstanding US vehicle safety compliance questions.

Tesla develops electric vehicles, battery storage systems, charging infrastructure and autonomous driving technology, with Cybertruck introduced in 2023 as its entry into the electric pickup market.

The company's broader strategy increasingly focuses on artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous transportation, with Cybercab central to Musk's plans for a driverless robotaxi network and future vehicle production.
