  • Qualcomm announced a multi-generation collaboration with Amazon Web Services to develop custom AI data center chips focused on inference workloads.
  • Qualcomm shares rose 10% following the announcement as investors assessed its expansion into data center semiconductors.
  • The partnership supports Qualcomm’s strategy to become a supplier of AI infrastructure chips alongside established providers.

Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) announced a multi-generation partnership with Amazon Web Services to develop custom AI data center chips, expanding its role in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The companies said the collaboration will focus on custom silicon for AI inference workloads by combining AWS cloud infrastructure with Qualcomm’s power-efficient processing and chip design capabilities.

“AI infrastructure is rapidly evolving, and we are constantly looking at ways to get to more customers,” said Amazon Web Services.

The agreement follows Qualcomm’s entry into the data center market with its Dragonfly C1000 central processing unit announced in June 2026, with production expected to begin in 2028.

Following the announcement, Qualcomm shares were up 10% as investors evaluated the company’s expansion into AI data center chips and its partnership with another major cloud provider.

Qualcomm said the collaboration builds on its efforts to develop data center products, while Amazon continues expanding its custom semiconductor portfolio through chips including Trainium, Graviton, and Nitro.

Qualcomm designs semiconductor products for mobile devices, computing, automotive, and networking markets, while Amazon Web Services provides cloud computing infrastructure and develops custom silicon for AI and cloud applications.
