Qualcomm to acquire Modular for AI software platform
- Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) agreed to acquire Modular Inc to strengthen its AI-native software capabilities for generative and agentic AI.
- The deal combines Modular’s open software stack with Qualcomm’s silicon leadership to improve performance-per-watt and hardware flexibility across edge to cloud.
- Qualcomm stated the acquisition will accelerate developer adoption and expand its data center AI opportunities.
Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) has reached an agreement to acquire Modular, strengthening Qualcomm Technologies’ software foundation for generative and agentic AI across data center and edge environments.
The acquisition will enable a silicon-agnostic compute layer that improves performance-per-watt, hardware flexibility, and deployment across heterogeneous platforms.
“This acquisition marks a pivotal moment not just for Qualcomm, but for the AI industry,” said Cristiano Amon, President and CEO, Qualcomm Incorporated.
Modular provides an open, AI-native software stack that runs models efficiently across CPU, GPU, NPU, and custom ASIC architectures without requiring rewrites.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
The deal deepens Qualcomm’s data center strategy and supports more efficient inference, orchestration, and deployment while expanding relationships with developers, hyperscalers, and enterprises.
