AstraZeneca TAGRISSO cuts death risk 48% at eight years
- AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) reported eight-year ADAURA data showing TAGRISSO reduced the risk of death by 48% versus placebo across Stage IB-IIIA EGFR-mutated NSCLC.
- An estimated 79% of TAGRISSO-treated patients in the overall population were alive at eight years, compared with 64% receiving placebo.
- AstraZeneca said the long-term results reinforce TAGRISSO as an adjuvant standard of care and backbone therapy across stages of EGFR-mutated lung cancer.
AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) reported updated Phase III ADAURA results showing TAGRISSO reduced the risk of death by 48% versus placebo after eight years in the overall Stage IB-IIIA EGFR-mutated NSCLC population.
In the primary Stage II-IIIA population, TAGRISSO reduced the risk of death by 47%, with a hazard ratio of 0.53 and a 95% confidence interval of 0.38 to 0.75.
โThese ADAURA findings show patients continue to experience meaningful, long-term benefit following early intervention with adjuvant osimertinib,โ said ADAURA principal investigator Roy S. Herbst.
An estimated 74% of TAGRISSO-treated patients in the primary population were alive at eight years versus 58% with placebo, representing a 16-percentage-point difference.
Across the overall Stage IB-IIIA population, estimated eight-year survival was 79% with TAGRISSO versus 64% with placebo, with a hazard ratio of 0.52 and 95% confidence interval of 0.39 to 0.71.
AstraZeneca said the overall survival benefit remained consistent across all predefined subgroups despite patients being allowed to receive osimertinib after disease recurrence.
The company said the eight-year results reinforce TAGRISSOโs role as an adjuvant standard of care and support early EGFR testing to identify eligible patients after complete tumor resection.
