Zcash grants committee drops proposed 98,000 ZEC transfer
Key points
- Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) withdrew its proposal to redirect approximately 98,000 ZEC into future mining rewards.
- The committee said the community should decide the future of the development fund and ZCG treasury through Zcash’s governance process.
- The withdrawal leaves the proposed funding changes undecided and returns the discussion to community governance.
Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) has abandoned a proposal to redirect approximately 98,000 ZEC towards future mining rewards.
The plan would have reduced ZCG funding and transferred unused allocations into Zcash’s Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM).
“We’ve decided not to take this proposal forward,” said the Zcash Community Grants Committee.
The proposal outlined cutting ZCG’s allocation from approximately 109,000 ZEC to 47,000 ZEC by the 2028 halving.
It also proposed transferring approximately 36,200 ZEC from ZCG’s treasury into the NSM, subject to community support.
The NSM holds ZEC outside circulation to fund future mining rewards as block subsidies decline over successive halvings.
Under the withdrawn plan, miners would retain 80% of block rewards, while grant allocations would gradually shift towards future rewards.
Following the update, ZEC was trading up 14.8% at $1,292.41.
