Zcash activates NU7 upgrade on testnet
- Zcash activated its NU7 network upgrade on testnet ahead of a planned November mainnet rollout.
- The upgrade cuts target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.
- Developers will assess the testnet before deciding on mainnet activation.
Zcash (ZEC) activated its NU7 network upgrade on testnet at block 4,465,026.
The upgrade cuts target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.
NU7 also introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism that redirects transaction fees towards future block rewards.
The testnet phase gives developers several weeks to assess the consensus changes under live conditions.
The upgrade disables version 4 transactions, affecting ZEC held in the legacy Sprout shielded pool.
Developers are scheduled to decide on mainnet activation and set its height on October 20.
The community timeline targets November 5 for NU7’s mainnet activation if testing supports deployment.
Following the update, ZEC was trading down 1.0% at $1,320.06.
