World Liberty bank backed by 49% Abu Dhabi stake
- An Abu Dhabi royal’s group reportedly backs a 49% stake in the holding company behind World Liberty Financial’s planned US trust bank.
- The bank received preliminary conditional approval from US regulators on 14 August.
- The bank would issue, redeem and safeguard USD1, World Liberty’s dollar-backed stablecoin.
An entity linked to Abu Dhabi royal Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan reportedly backs 49% of the holding company behind World Liberty Financial’s proposed bank.
The holding company is WLTC Holdings, with a Trump family-linked entity reportedly owning another 38% stake.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted World Liberty Trust Company preliminary conditional approval on 14 August.
The planned bank would issue, redeem and safeguard USD1 (CRYPTO:USD1) if it receives final approval, bringing those services under federal supervision.
The bank cannot begin operating until it meets the OCC’s pre-opening requirements and receives final approval, according to the regulator’s decision.
World Liberty Financial previously received a reported US$500 million investment for a 49% stake from a Tahnoon-backed entity in 2025.
World Liberty Financial is a private company, so there is no listed share price reaction to report following the announcement, while the Trump Organization did not respond to Cointelegraph before publication.
