World Liberty Financial (CRYPTO:WLFI) denied claims by investor Nic Carter that he turned down an advisory role after questioning the project's crypto knowledge.
Carter said he met Steve Witkoff in 2024 but decided not to join because Witkoff could not explain the project's decentralised finance business.
"He didn't know what crypto or DeFi was. He didn't know what the pitch was," said Castle Island Ventures partner Nic Carter.
World Liberty said Carter's account was wrong and said it never offered him an advisory role, while its Gold Paper states WLFI is only a governance token.
WLFI traded near $0.055, down from its record $0.3313, with about 31.8% of the token supply in circulation.
The report said only 20% of investors' tokens were unlocked when public trading began, with the remaining tokens scheduled for release from 2028.
The project has also faced legal disputes involving early investor Justin Sun while continuing to reject criticism about its governance and operations.
