Tether USDT premium reaches 8.5% in India

  • Tether’s USDT traded at about ₹102.88 in India, versus a bank dollar rate of ₹94.65.
  • The difference exceeded 8.5% after reported enforcement action disrupted local supply.
  • Demand, transfer rules, taxes and seller risks can keep the premium above the global dollar value.

Tether’s USDT (CRYPTO:USDT) traded at about ₹102.88 in India, creating a premium of more than 8.5% against the ₹94.65 bank dollar rate.

The premium is usually around 3–5% in India but has reached 8.5–10% during major market disruptions.

The gap widened in late June after the Enforcement Directorate reportedly raided several offices in Bengaluru, reducing informal USDT supply.

USDT demand remains linked to Indian traders using the stablecoin to convert rupees before buying other cryptocurrencies internationally.

CoinDCX executives said local USDT prices depend on the balance between buyers and sellers compared with the global dollar price.

India does not produce USDT locally, so slower overseas inflows can reduce supply while foreign exchange rules and taxes limit arbitrage.

USDT has no share price, so there is no company share-price reaction to report, while the source says the premium could remain around 3–5% normally and rise above 8% during supply shocks.
