Ardoino said developing economies use USDT for domestic trade, foreign commerce and protection against weak local currencies.
“Several developing Countries’s economies are heavily relying on USDT, for both internal and foreign commerce,” said Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino.
Bitcoin.com cited Venezuela, where an economist said stablecoins accounted for almost 80% of oil revenue payments in 2025.
The report also said Venezuela’s P2P stablecoin market represented 75% of monthly oil exports, while 90.2% of Binance’s P2P listings included USDT.
Tether is also seeing USDT considered in Bolivia, where officials are evaluating its potential role in the financial system.
Following the announcement, Tether had no publicly traded share price because the company is privately held, while USDT remained designed to track the US dollar.
