Taiko outlines four-stage recovery after bridge exploit

  • Taiko said it has closed the attack path used in the June 21 bridge exploit and is preparing a four-stage network restart.
  • The project will restore the chain, replenish bridge reserves to one-to-one backing, resume network activity and then reopen bridge withdrawals under temporary limits.
  • Taiko said independent security experts reviewed the fixes and that no user funds will be lost during the recovery process.

Taiko said it has closed the attack path exploited during the June 21 bridge attack after independent security experts reviewed its security fixes, allowing the project to begin a staged recovery of the network.

The first phase will deploy the updated software, confirm the chain's finalised state and verify that no forged checkpoints or attacker claims remain accessible before normal operations resume.

The second stage will restore one-to-one backing for all bridge assets, allowing users to verify on-chain that all layer-2 assets remain fully supported before bridge services are reopened.

Taiko said transfers, swaps and other layer-2 activity will resume before the bridge reopens, giving the team time to monitor network stability under normal operating conditions.

Once the chain is operating normally, the Security Council will approve reopening the bridge with temporary withdrawal quotas designed to provide an additional safeguard during the recovery process.

"No user will lose funds," Taiko said, while also warning users that there is no official claim website and that the project will never initiate contact through direct messages.

The recovery follows a bridge exploit linked to flaws in proof validation, adding to a series of recent cross-chain bridge security incidents that have increased scrutiny of verification mechanisms and recovery procedures across the digital asset industry.
