  • SecondFi said it will not resume normal operations after a wallet exploit drained about 16 million ADA from 374 Cardano wallets.
  • EMURGO is developing recovery tools, migration options and a recovery fund for affected users while audits continue.
  • The company said its remaining work on SecondFi will focus solely on asset recovery and helping users migrate to safer wallets.

SecondFi said it will permanently cease normal operations after a wallet exploit that drained about 16 million Cardano (CRYPTO:ADA) from 374 wallet addresses, with the project now focusing only on recovering user assets.

The decision marks a change from the company's earlier recovery plan, with EMURGO now urging all users to migrate away from SecondFi through official channels even if their wallets were not affected.

“SecondFi will not resume normal operations,” EMURGO said.

EMURGO said multiple independent security firms are continuing to audit the incident, a patch has been submitted to address the identified vulnerability, and the company is preparing wallet checker tools, secure migration routes, a recovery fund and a quarantined website to support affected users.

EMURGO said the recovery system must complete an external audit before affected assets can be returned, and there was no immediate market reaction because SecondFi is not a publicly listed company.

The company said it is also developing secure wallet export functionality to help users migrate to hardware wallets or other platforms, while planning an in-person migration workshop in Tokyo.

EMURGO said it will publish a full explanation of the incident after security investigations and code reviews are completed, while warning users to rely only on official SecondFi channels because scammers have been targeting victims with fake recovery services.

At the time of reporting, Cardano price was $0.1804.
