Robinhood completes WonderFi takeover in Canada

Share

Robinhood Markets has completed its $180 million acquisition of Canadian digital asset services company WonderFi, marking the trading platform's formal entry into Canada's regulated cryptocurrency market.

The acquisition brings WonderFi's crypto platforms, Bitbuy and Coinsquare, under Robinhood's ownership, with users expected to be invited to continue their services through the Robinhood app.

“WonderFi has extensive experience operating regulated crypto platforms that serve beginner and advanced crypto users alike, making it an ideal partner to accelerate Robinhood’s mission in Canada,”

Said Johann Kerbrat, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Robinhood Crypto & International.

Robinhood said it will continue supporting WonderFi's existing institutional partnerships, helping expand the company's growing institutional crypto business following its acquisition of Bitstamp.

The transaction adds approximately 300,000 funded customers to Robinhood's international operations, taking its total number of funded customers outside the United States to more than one million.

Robinhood first announced the WonderFi acquisition in May 2025 as part of its strategy to expand beyond the US market and strengthen its position in global cryptocurrency trading.

Despite the completion of the deal, Robinhood shares closed 3.8% lower at $90.73 on Monday and remain down more than 21% since the start of the year.
