Ripple partners Kyobo for blockchain bond trading
Ripple is partnering with Kyobo Life Insurance to develop a blockchain-based platform for trading tokenised government bonds in South Korea.
The collaboration targets real-time bond trading within a market valued at approximately $2.3 trillion, aiming to replace traditional settlement processes that typically take up to two days.
“Provide differentiated financial services through a close cooperation with Ripple,”
Said Kyobo Life Insurance vice president, Park Jin-ho.
The initiative will begin with a proof-of-concept phase, followed by a pilot using Ripple’s institutional blockchain infrastructure in a testnet environment.
The platform is designed to convert government bonds into digital tokens that can be traded on blockchain networks, enabling faster transactions and reducing reliance on intermediaries.
The partnership builds on earlier collaboration between the firms, including exploration of stablecoins and tokenised assets since their initial agreement in September.
The move also comes as XRP trading volumes surge in South Korea, where the token recently accounted for more than 12% of daily activity on the Upbit exchange.
At the time of reporting, XRP price was $1.42.
