Polymarket expands into private startup markets
Polymarket has launched a new category of prediction markets tied to private companies through a partnership with Nasdaq Private Market.
The new markets will allow users to trade on startup-related events including fundraising rounds, valuation changes and other corporate milestones involving late-stage private companies and pre-IPO firms.
Nasdaq Private Market will provide the underlying private market data and infrastructure supporting the contracts as Polymarket expands beyond politics, macroeconomic events and public market-related predictions.
The company said demand for private company forecasting tools has grown alongside the rise of unicorn startups, noting there are now nearly 1,600 private companies valued above $1 billion globally with a combined valuation exceeding $5 trillion.
Polymarket said the new offering aims to improve price discovery in private capital markets, where valuation information often remains opaque and largely inaccessible to retail investors.
The launch also reflects broader institutional interest in prediction markets as Wall Street firms and investors increasingly explore event-based trading products tied to financial and economic outcomes.
A recent report from Bitget Wallet and Polymarket found retail traders still account for about 80% of prediction market activity, although analysts at Bernstein said institutional participation has started increasing as infrastructure and regulatory conditions improve.
