IMF says El Salvador used no public funds
- The IMF says El Salvador used no public funds for Bitcoin accumulated after 27 June 2025.
- The country could receive another US$140 million after IMF Board approval and required reforms.
- The IMF does not expect further Bitcoin accumulation beyond documented private donations.
The International Monetary Fund said El Salvador used no public funds for Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) accumulated after 27 June 2025.
El Salvador provided documents showing the additional Bitcoin came from private donations, according to the IMF.
“Going forward, no further Bitcoin accumulation beyond the documented donations is expected,” IMF staff said.
The disclosure helps explain increases in wallets linked to El Salvador’s Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, which had raised questions about further purchases.
The IMF also reached a staff-level agreement that could unlock about US$140 million for El Salvador after Board approval.
The agreement includes plans to strengthen governance and risk controls for digital assets held by the public sector.
The IMF said Chivo’s majority ownership and operations moved to a private operator, while the government retained minority ownership and custody duties.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $80,882.24.
