  • A Bitcoin Core contributor said El Zonte saw just one Bitcoin payment during the past month.
  • Most customers reportedly now pay by card, according to a local vendor.
  • The developer stressed that his observation was anecdotal and may not represent wider adoption.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) payments have reportedly fallen sharply in El Zonte, El Salvador, according to developer Jon Atack.

Atack said a vendor told him his Bitcoin payment was the first there in a month.

“Lunched in El Zonte (Bitcoin Beach) today,” Atack wrote.

The vendor reportedly said almost all customers now pay by card rather than Bitcoin.

Atack said the observation was anecdotal, although the vendor had worked there for three years.

Another visitor said Bitcoin payments remained possible in the area, showing that local experiences differ.

El Zonte became known as Bitcoin Beach after El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $79,841.15.
