Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said US crypto rules have never been closer after meetings in Washington.

Garlinghouse met President Donald Trump, regulators and financial leaders at the White House on 19 August.

“Everyone was in agreement. Rules written for a different era aren’t good enough. Not for consumers. Not for business. Not for innovation,” Garlinghouse wrote on X.

The White House meeting covered crypto laws, capital raising, tokenisation and US technology competition.

The CFTC meeting followed on 20 August and included Nasdaq, CME Group, Cboe and the New York Stock Exchange.

Garlinghouse said Ripple had pushed for clearer rules since 2019 and called the latest progress the closest yet.

The CLARITY Act still faces Senate disputes, while the CFTC and SEC are developing rules under existing powers.
