  • The UK Financial Conduct Authority has issued final guidance ahead of its new crypto authorisation process.
  • Applications open on September 30, while firms seeking transitional arrangements must apply by February 28, 2027.
  • The new regime will take effect on October 25, 2027, covering stablecoins, trading platforms, custody and staking.

The UK Financial Conduct Authority has issued final guidance for crypto firms preparing for its new authorisation regime.

Applications will open on September 30, giving firms more than a year before the rules take effect.

“Getting ready for regulation starts with understanding how the regime applies to your business,” said David Geale, executive director of consumers, payments and competition at the FCA.

Existing FCA registrations will not automatically become authorisations under the incoming framework.

Firms seeking transitional arrangements must submit applications by February 28, 2027, under the FCA timetable.

The rules cover qualifying stablecoins, crypto trading platforms, custody, digital-asset dealing and certain staking services.

The FCA has set October 25, 2027 as the expected start date for the new crypto framework.
