BitMine Russell entry may drive demand

Share

BitMine Immersion Technologies is expected to join the Russell 1000 Index following FTSE Russell’s semi-annual index reconstitution scheduled for June 26.

BitMine chairman Tom Lee said the company comfortably exceeded the large-cap inclusion threshold with a market capitalisation of about $10.7 billion.

Lee said inclusion in the Russell 1000 could trigger a significant wave of automated buying from passively managed index funds and exchange-traded funds that track Russell benchmarks.

According to Lee, passive index vehicles typically hold roughly 20% to 25% of a company’s market value once it enters the benchmark, potentially creating multi-billion-dollar demand for BitMine shares.

The company has become one of the largest institutional accumulators of Ethereum after aggressively expanding its treasury holdings beginning in mid-2025.

BitMine currently controls approximately 4.6 million ETH worth around $10 billion, representing roughly 3.8% of Ethereum’s circulating supply, according to Strategic Ethereum Reserve data.

The company has publicly targeted ownership of 5% of Ethereum’s total supply, a position that would currently be valued at roughly $12.8 billion based on prevailing ETH prices near $2,100.

Other crypto-related firms are also expected to benefit from Russell index changes, with Galaxy Digital joining the Russell 1000 while Gemini and SharpLink are expected to enter the Russell 2000 small-cap index.

At the time of reporting, Ethereum price was $2,086.93.
