Bithumb wins two suits over Bitcoin error

Bithumb has won two lawsuits seeking money from users who sold Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) after a mistaken credit.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled for Bithumb in two of four cases, according to a Chosun Biz report.

The cases involved claims of 194 million won (US$140,000) and 5 million won (US$3,600).

The exchange mistakenly credited 620,000 BTC during a promotional event on February 6, 2026.

Bithumb later recovered 618,212 BTC, or 99.7% of the mistaken credits, but 1,788 BTC had already been sold.

Bithumb filed four lawsuits in March against users who sold the credited Bitcoin and kept the proceeds.

South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service has also started sanctions proceedings over the error, with no final penalty announced.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $80,239.65.
