Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) has closed above its 50-week moving average for the first time in 45 weeks.
Bitcoin was trading near $81,450 after gaining nearly 6% over the week and 29% across 35 days.
The 50-week moving average has stood near $78,115, making that level important for Bitcoin's next weekly closes.
Galaxy Research has identified 13 previous weekly closes above the average since 2011, with 11 followed by no new cycle low.
Previous successful breaks have preceded major Bitcoin rallies, including after the 2011, 2014–15, 2018 and 2022 market downturns.
The pattern has also failed twice, with Bitcoin crossing above the average in December 2021 and March 2022 before falling towards $16,000.
Bitcoin's latest move therefore marks a significant technical shift, but holding above the 50-week average will determine whether the level remains reclaimed.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $81,603.35.
