Binance Zhao says UAE to lead money
Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance, said the United Arab Emirates is set to become a global financial centre due to its progressive approach to cryptocurrency regulation and innovation.
He said the UAE offers “freedom” for crypto businesses while maintaining a balanced regulatory model, with jurisdictions such as Abu Dhabi Global Market enabling innovation alongside consumer protection.
“This is the first in the world … I think the UAE is going to become the centre for money,”
Said Changpeng Zhao, speaking during a Dubai event promoting his memoir.
Zhao’s comments follow his return to public life after serving four months in prison in 2024 and receiving a pardon in 2025 under former US president Joe Biden.
He said his priorities have shifted towards long-term initiatives including Giggle Academy, which has reached around 200,000 children, as well as advisory work on crypto regulation.
Zhao also said Bitcoin continues to follow its four-year cycle despite volatility, noting prices fell to about $60,000 in early 2026 before recovering towards $80,000.
Looking ahead, he said growth in AI and autonomous transactions would increase demand for crypto infrastructure, echoing earlier comments from Binance co-chief executive Richard Teng that blockchain and AI will reshape global finance.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $79,921.12.
