  • Yancoal Australia reported a $340 million increase in cash balance for the September quarter before dividend payouts and acquisition funding.
  • The average realised coal price rose to $170 per tonne, while the share price fell to $6.04 following the announcement.
  • Higher diesel costs are expected to lift operating expenses towards the upper end of 2026 guidance, while production remains on track for the upper half of guidance.

Yancoal Australia (ASX:YAL) boosted its cash balance by $340 million during the September 2026 quarter, supported by higher coal pricing.

Quarterly output decreased compared to the second quarter of 2026, mainly due to a planned longwall relocation at the Moolarben mine.

"On Oct. 1, we completed our acquisition of an 80% interest in the Kestrel Coal Mine," said Yancoal CEO Sharif Burra.

The business generated 9.4 million tonnes of attributable saleable coal during the three-month period and maintained its 2026 production guidance of 36.5 to 40.5 million tonnes.

Management stated that operational momentum and favourable market conditions position the business well heading into the final quarter of 2026.

Following the announcement, the Yancoal share price was down at $6.04.

Yancoal is a major Australian coal producer operating open-cut and underground mines across New South Wales and Queensland.

The group recently secured NSW State Government approval for continued operations at Hunter Valley Operations through 2026 and completed the purchase of an 80% stake in the Kestrel mine on Oct. 1.
