The South Australian government has announced an $3 million royal commission into artificial intelligence starting on Oct. 1.
The enquiry is scheduled to examine public sector risks and deliver its final report no later than July 1, 2027.
“I want South Australia to be a leader in the policy to respond to this technology in a way that puts people’s interests first,” said South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas.
A panel of expert commissioners will formulate policy recommendations across education, healthcare, public services, workforce, and energy infrastructure.
Following the announcement, the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) share price was up at US$308.26.
The state government previously established Australia's first dedicated minister for the AI and digital economy cabinet portfolio.
The policy initiative follows an overseas mission where state leaders met technology executives and executed an agreement with OpenAI.
