Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST) appointed Terry Bowen as an independent non-executive director to its board starting on Sept. 1.
The board selection follows recent pressure from United States activist fund Elliott Investment Management for changes among company directors.
"Terry brings tremendous experience spanning financial and management reporting, capital management and allocation, treasury, risk management, and mergers and acquisitions," said Northern Star Chairman Michael Chaney.
Bowen will take over as chair of the audit and risk committee from John Fitzgerald, who is stepping down after 14 years on the board.
The company stated that the leadership addition is intended to support ongoing capital management strategies.
Following the announcement, the Northern Star share price was up at $23.24.
The business operates major gold assets across Western Australia and North America.
The company has previously focused its operational strategy on expanding production output and optimising existing mining assets.
