Newmont (ASX:NEM) has halted all underground operations at its Cadia gold and copper mine following a 4.5 magnitude earthquake detected in the region overnight.

The seismic event triggered immediate safety protocols, leading to a full evacuation of the site.

Management confirmed that all underground personnel have been safely accounted for and returned to the surface, with no injuries reported.

Operations remain suspended while technical teams conduct a thorough assessment of the underground infrastructure to ensure the site is stabilised before work resumes.

At the time of reporting, Newmont’s share price was $167.40.
