Island Pharmaceuticals advances Galidesivir

Island Pharmaceuticals (ASX:ILA) advanced its commercialisation strategy by launching a comprehensive Good Manufacturing Practice campaign for its leading antiviral candidate, Galidesivir.

The company has executed an agreement with global contract research, development, and manufacturing organisation PI Health Sciences.

Under the partnership, PIHS will oversee analytical method validation, reference standard preparation, stability testing, and the scaled production of high-grade GMP Galidesivir.

The manufacturing milestone is explicitly structured to support Island's upcoming pivotal efficacy trials and human safety studies.

The planned Marburg virus disease development programme is progressing under the United States Food and Drug Administration’s Animal Rule pathway, representing the final substantive requirements prior to a potential regulatory submission.

While the company's existing inventory remains fully available for imminent dose optimisation studies alongside clinical trial partners, the fresh GMP-grade supply will focus entirely on these final pivotal clinical steps.

By validating and scaling production to levels appropriate for late-stage development, the campaign marks a definitive transition for Galidesivir from a development-stage asset into a robust, procurement-ready biodefence countermeasure.

The newly established manufacturing, analytical, and quality systems significantly enhance Island’s capacity to capitalise on near-term government procurement and outbreak response opportunities, including addressing the current Ebola outbreak.

With manufacturing activities already underway, Island expects to receive its first batch of GMP-grade product within the coming months.

At the time of reporting, Island Pharmaceuticals’ share price was $0.38.
