Coles (ASX:COL) reported first-quarter total group sales revenue of $11.21 billion, up from $10.96 billion in the previous corresponding period.
The growth was driven by a 3.6% increase in supermarket sales to $10.32 billion, compared to sales of $9.97 billion recorded in the first quarter of last year.
"While Supermarkets sales growth remained in line with the prior quarter, we know household budgets are under pressure and customers are shopping more deliberately across retailers and channels," said Coles Group Managing Director and CEO Leah Weckert.
The supermarket operator reported that its liquor division sales dipped 1.3% to $831 million, down from $842 million in the prior year.
Coles stated that accelerated investment in its store network and technology remains on track, as it launched eight new supermarkets and rolled out electronic shelf labels during the 13-week period.
Following the announcement, the Coles share price was down at $23.46.
The retailer expanded its strategic partnership with Accenture to establish the Coles Capability Centre while continuing to expand its online capacity.
