  • The company stated the programme aims to lower costs and access international capabilities and artificial intelligence tools.

Coles (ASX:COL) confirmed that it will outsource up to 1,000 back-office positions to India to cut operational expenses.

The decision impacts part of the retailer's 5,000 corporate roles while leaving store workers unaffected.

"Some of our team members will likely be impacted by redundancy," said Coles CEO Leah Weckert.

The transition covers technology, human resources, finance, and marketing roles under a multi-year Accenture partnership.

Coles expects the programme to streamline operations, and following the announcement, the Coles share price was unchanged at $24.02.

The move follows similar offshoring plans from major Australian companies including Woolworths (ASX:WOW) and Qantas (ASX:QAN).

National Australia Bank (ASX:NAB) and Officeworks are also shifting hundreds of local support functions overseas.
